NRN ID
“Non-resident Nepali” means a foreign citizen of Nepali origin and this term also includes a Nepali citizen residing abroad.
“Foreign citizen of Nepali origin” means a person who him/herself or whose father, mother grandfather or grandmother was a citizen of Nepal at any time and has subsequently acquired the citizenship of any other foreign country other than a member country of the South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation (SAARC).
“Nepali citizen residing abroad” means a Nepali citizen who has been residing in any foreign country for at least two years engaged in any profession, occupation, business and employment except a Nepali citizen residing in a member country of SAARC or serving in a diplomatic mission or consulate situated in a foreign country under the assignment of the Government of Nepal and pursuing studies in an academic institution in a foreign country.
The Non Resident Nepalis (NRNs) residing in Canada and in the countries this Embassy is accredited to, can submit their applications to the Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa to obtain the NRN ID cards.
Instructions to apply for an NRN ID:
Visit www.nrn.mofa.gov.np,
before proceeding, click "sign up" button and create an account, fill in the details, it will open up create password page and once the password is created it will redirect again to the sign in page,
the website has separate links for "Foreign Citizen of Nepali Origin and Nepali Citizen Residing Abroad,
after signing in, Select "नेपाली राजदूतावास, ओटावा, क्यानाडा-326003541" in drop-down under कार्यालय,
select appropriate card type in other drop-down under कार्डकोप्रकार,
fill in the details required in the form and fill in the full date as mentioned in your Certificate of Canadian Citizenship in the विदेशी नागरिकता प्राप्त मिति and बसोवास गर्न शुरु गरेको मिति and also attach this certificate in documents,
attach relevant documents if you state your profession,
once complete, print the form and sign the application,
compile the copies of following documents with the signed application:

Note: please include bank draft/ money order (CAD 690 for NRN card for Foreign Citizen of Nepali Origin) in the name of 'Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa' in the envelope and a return envelope along with the application. The applicant can also visit in person to the Embassy with the documents as specified above to submit the application and pay at the Embassy via debit card.
